Everyday Life at Ruff'n It and Lessons Learned

December 18, 2008
Have you ever heard someone say their dog is a little angel and thought the complete opposite?

It is always interesting when you hear a new client tell you about their dog and how their dog hates big dogs, does this, doesn't do that, etc., etc., etc.  The reality usually is that the dog will do the exact opposite of what ever Mommy or Daddy says.

Just to tease Dayzee and Kali's Mom and Dad, I will share their story.  They finally got a 2nd dog, another female yellow lab. They waited a bit to name her, as they wanted a feel for her personality.  Her name is Kali.  When I googled (that is a word now, right?) her name, I found that in Hinduism, "Kali is represented with perhaps the fiercest features amongst all the world's deities" (http://hinduism.about.com/od/hindugoddesses/a/makali.htm). Coincidence or not, that's what they named her and that pretty much summed up their description of her at home and with her 2 year old sister, another Yellow Lab.

Our first day with Kali was a couple of weeks ago.  She is the most sweet, perfect little angel.  Extremely submissive.  Not a wild-bone in her body.  Played well with everyone.  She even laid down for a bit.  We could hardly believe that this was the same puppy that was described to us.

The only other option is that she was on her best behaviour with us so that we would think her parents just did not know what they were talking about.   Good thing is that we've know her parents along longer than we've known her.  Time will tell if the "Kali" personality we were told about comes out.

Who learns from who?
I always snicker to myself when the "kids" come in and the parent(s) tell them to "learn lots at school today."  See, we know the truth about this.  Not to say that the "kids" do not learn anything, but I think that we learn a lot more.  If only most people in the world followed the lessons that we learn.  Something as simple as "grrrr", which sometimes means "you are starting to irritate me," "get out of my face," or "don't do that to me."  The amazing thing is that once the "grrrr" comes out, all is fixed.  They then sometimes lick and make up or just go on with the day.  Without a grudge, hostility, or even a memory of what just happened.  So often, we humans, have someone snap at us with words or a glance and we just can't go on without holding on to it for awhile.  We let it ruin our moment, day, week, month, or year.  Just let it go and move on.  It works for them.

Hey it's Megs

Today was a beautiful day at Ruff'n It.  Even though it was a small group, everybody played, the floors got deep-cleaned, and our Christmas tree went up!  Looking forward to sharing the holidays with your "fur-kids."

Ahhhh.....Alas, our very own blog!

I am excited to be starting our very own blog.  I had been thinking about it for awhile as Megan and I sit here and laugh at the many actions of the "dogs being dogs."  We continue to learn a little bit of something about each and every dog as we watch the daily interactions. Before we sit down with the pen and paper to write our book (LOL), we would like to utilize this blog to share our daily laughs, observances, lessons learned, and maybe even an annoyance (Only once in awhile).  Have fun reading and feel free to post comments.

Welcome Lady, Sunny, Lucy, Pete, Beauegard!
A Ruff'n It Roar of a welcome to the new Kids!!!

Lady, a sexy little Sheltie, is a retired Show Girl and she could dance!  By the end of the day, she let her hair down and got to play'n!!!  However, she is quite the lady!

Sunny?  Sunny did what all of our labs do...played hard and fit right in!

Lucy was stopping in for daycare while vacationing here in with us in Florida. Her stay with us was not very long, but we hope to see her when stopping in Florida on her future travels!

Beauregard, the Golden Retriever, and Pete, the Golden Doodle are here today for the first time!!! Pete is just a little bit reserved today in a new environment. He will be fine as he has spent many a hours at his other play facility up North.  As far as Beauregard, currently, he is frolicking about the room.  This can't be his first day, could it?
